Matt Huels

Matt Huels has served as the Managing Director of the Commercial Primary Liability Division at Markel since January 2015. He has 17 years of experience underwriting, managing people, and developing product within the primary casualty and surplus lines space. Within his role at Markel, he is responsible for product line profitability and strategic growth, focusing on underwriting guidelines, rate strategy, underwriter development and product innovation. Prior to joining Markel, Huels managed the surplus lines general liability product line for XL Group and served in various management and underwriting positions for First Mercury Insurance Company and ACE USA. He has a B.S. in Management Information Systems from Millikin University and carries a CPCU designation.
